Learn How the Story Ends! EELS Releasing Last Record of Trilogy Set in August, Announce World Tour Dates

Word came today that Mark Everett and his latest combination of players are putting out a new EELS record in August. Out 8/24, Tomorrow Morning (E Works Records) is the final installment of the triology that included 2009's Hombre Lobo and End Times from earlier this year.

A world tour starts 8/3 in Santa Ana, CA as a warm-up show, hits three continents, then returns to the States/Canada in mid-September. Additional dates are to follow.

"Hombre Lobo, 12 Songs of Desire" by Eels Out Today

Hombre Lobo, out today, is the 7th record by Eels, and as always with the always interesting and eccentric frontman "E," the grey matter between your ears is captured instantaneously. Gone is the softness found on the last release, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations. Instead, E seems to have found that middle ground between the bedroom snynth of past records like Daisies of the Galaxy and the gritty dirtiness of Souljacker (more on the gritty side from what I've heard so far). For those keeping score, Kool G Murder is back as one of his sidemen. Hopefully a tour schedule will be announced shortly, and if you go, I have two words for you: Bring Earplugs. This material live is going to be LOUD.

Eels New Release, Hombre Lobo, Out 6/2; Tracks Streaming Now via Myspace

I've long loved the odd and innovative mind of Eels frontman Mark Everett. It's whimsical, it's heart-tugging, it's raw, and oftentimes bizarre, but it's never, ever boring. (For more on this subject, I highly recommend this, a rather stellar read.) And can the man put on a live show, daaaaaammmn....

Everett and his Eels are putting out their first record in four years on 6/2, titled Hombre Lobo: 12 songs of desire. Seems they are streaming the first track, "Fresh Blood," on their Myspace page right this very moment, and come 4/28, you can download "Fresh Blood" and a non-album B-side called "Devil's Dog" via Itunes to tide you over till June.

Eels Have Free EP Available for Download Through Today

I first discovered Mark Everett and his band, Eels while watching some really crappy movie about Los Angeles a million years ago. The song "Beautiful Freak" was at the end, one that is really beautiful and utterly haunting. It took a lot of squinting because the tape quality wasn't great, but man, was it worth it. Everett's songwriting is touching, personal, and poignant, and it's a band that's definitely become a favorite of mine.
